My work focuses on landscape and the effects and consequences of man’s interactions with it. The paintings look for a balance between the real and the imagined, figuration and abstraction. Initially working from photographs and drawings back in my studio, then abandoning these to use memory and imagination and an exploration of paint.

Based on places I know or have passed through, I am drawn to the edgelands or marginal places on the outskirts of cities and towns or hidden between streets and buildings in plain sight but unseen. Although absent in the work, human presence is evident whether it’s manmade structures or the remnants or discarded rubbish. I see the work as political, about the environment and the social impact of the world we find ourselves in. My work has been described as a lament for the degradation of the environment and the anxiety this causes interpreted through the mark making and application of paint.

I began printmaking at an adult education centre in New Cross then at London College of Printing 1995-97. I have had a studio at Lewisham Arthouse in south east London since 1996 and been a member of Artichoke Printmakers in Loughborough Junction since 2010. A few years ago I began painting and in 2019 was accepted on the Turps Art School painting programme (Correspondence Course 2019-21, Offsite Programme 2021-23) which has challenged and invigorated my artistic practice. Since leaving Turps I was shortlisted by the Contemporary British Painting Prize exhibition 2023 and was part of the touring exhibition. I have shown paintings in the London Group Open 2023, Compost at the Terrace Gallery and in Rogue Women 3, Rogue Studios, Manchester. I have exhibited my prints widely in a number of prestigious exhibitions including Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2013, 2017, 2022, 23 & 24), Bainbridge Open Print Exhibition (2011, 14, 18 and 23) National Original Print Exhibition 2018, 2019), Woolwich Contemporary Print fair 2017 to 2024 as well as smaller group shows and solo exhibitions.

I teach printmaking at the City Lit Institute in London and from my studio in south east London.
