Nick Grellier
Nick Grellier completed her Foundation at Wimbledon School of Art (1983-1984), before going on to study for a BA Hons in Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art (1985-1988). More recently, she completed her MA Fine Art at UWE Bristol (2017-2020). In 2020 Nick became an Associate Artist at Bricks, Bristol. She lives and works in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Over a durational autobiographical drawing project TODAY 2019-2021, Nick Grellier worked with the materially low value and democratic technologies of drawing and collage, building a substantial body of work through small feminist gestures. Attending to the difficulties and inadequacies inherent in verbal communication via deadpan humour, the subjects of the drawings are fleeting, intimate, and often angry, stark or funny. The project established its own visual language over the duration and cemented Grellier’s use of titling as inherent and equal within the works. There are 597 drawings to date, made on consecutive days (with a six month break after a year) and each drawing is 19.5cm x 19.5cm, made on Sea White sketchbook paper subsequently removed from the book. The second series of drawings SPacejUNK was exhibited at SVA Stroud in early 2021.
Nick Grellier exhibited at Irving Contemporary in A ROOM OF HER OWN (2022).
